Review
ABC 4 Kids version 1 is an educational game program aimed at learning the English alphabet and the spelling of some words. This program is made for younger children who just start learning English. It is performed in a game form, so that to arouse interest in using it. The interface is colorful and very easy in use, which is, no doubt, an indispensable condition for children’s programs.
There are two modes of the program – the teaching words mode and the spelling mode. In the teaching mode the words are pronounced by the program speech engine. At the same time the child sees the image and the spelling of the word, so both audio and visual perception is engaged simultaneously. When the spelling mode is switched on, the child is performing a self-testing activity by spelling the word depicted in the image. Even if a child forgets the spelling of a word, it is possible to press the help button to see the correct spelling. This option doesn’t let the process of learning be interrupted.
Concerning the drawback of ABC 4 Kids, we find that the library of words of the application is not rich enough for learning new words and enhancing the child’s vocabulary. Though, the program will be perfect for introducing the English alphabet and for making the first steps in learning the spelling of new words. |
